こんにちは！本日もリスニング日和ですね！
今回のリスニング日和は、バイデン米政権で気候変動問題担当特使になったジョン・ケリーさんです。気候変動問題の会合で強く行動を求めたスピーチを取り上げます。民主党の大統領候補となり、2004年の選挙でブッシュ元大統領に敗れましたが、その後もオバマ政権で国務長官に起用されるなどしてきた、米国政界屈指の国際派の1人。単語１つ１つの響きやスピーチのリズムが美しい、誰が聞いても魅力的な英語です。
構文を直観的に理解し英語を頭ごなしに解釈できるようになったら、ネイティブ感覚のリスニング力もすぐそこ。スピーキングの力も伸ばせる練習です。

準備：ヘッドホンをつける。自分の声を録音するレコーダー。 （英文スクリプトと日本語訳は一番最後にあります。必要に応じプリントアウトして下さい。）
①Warming-up Shadowing
スクリプトは見ないでシャドーイング。録音は不要。 英語音声を再生し、聞こえてきた音をしっかり声を出して正確に発音する。激しい運動の前の準備体操です。
②Short Reproduction
まずは文章を短く切ってリプロダクションをしましょう。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。録音は不要です。
・ネイティブ英語音声を/のところまで再生し、聞こえた英語をしっかり発声してリピートする。
・一語一句同じでなくても、意味が同じなら別の表現を使ってもよいが、自分のスピーキングが正しい文法になっているか自信がない場合は一語一句同じ表現を使うことをオススメします。
・スクリプトはなるべく見ない。何と言ったか忘れたら、もう1度音声を再生して確かめる。（それでもだめなら、スクリプトをチラ見して確認する程度にする。）
まずは、この程度の短さでリプロダクションに挑戦しましょう。前半部分のスクリプトで説明します。残りも同様にやってみましょう。

次は1、２文ずつリプロダクションをしていきます。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。自分の声を録音する。英語の構文がどうなっているか、意識して聞き、意味を理解していくようにする。ネイティブ感覚を身につける上で重要なポイントである、to, of, by, など小さな言葉の使い方も真似して身につけて。

And I mention it because I’m glad I have it – because like most in my generation, I grew up with a visceral understanding of how close the world came to chaos – and how allies and alliances dedicated to order and openness, common interests and shared values made all the difference./
友人の皆さん、気候変動は我々の時代の試練です。スローモーションで進んでいると信じている人がまだいるようですが、違います。この試練は、これまでのものと同じくらい、急激に進み、人類の存続を脅かしています。/
