no.40リプロダクション編ジョーダン・スピース Jordan Spieth Interview After Winning the US Open

こんにちは！本日もリスニング日和ですね！

今回のリスニング日和は、世界的トップゴルファーの1人、アメリカのジョーダン・スピース選手です。2015年に21歳でゴルフの4大大会の１つ、全米オープンを制した直後のインタビューで訓練します。

少し状況を説明しますと・・・この年の全米オープン最終日、スピースは17番でダブルボギーを叩いて４アンダーに後退したのですが、18番のバーディーで５アンダーに戻しました。一方、１つ後ろの組で回るダスティン・ジョンソンは逆に17番のバーディーで４アンダーに伸ばしたものの、最終18番でボギーを叩き、逆転優勝とはなりませんでした。スピースの話に出てくる「Dustinが気の毒だ」というのは、この話しなんですね。

ちなみに、スピースは同年のマスターズも制していて、これでメジャー2勝目。21歳は当時史上４番目の若さでのメジャー2勝目、マスターズと全米オープンの同年優勝は2002年のタイガー・ウッズ以来だったそうです。そんな話も文中に出てきます。

準備：ヘッドホンをつける。自分の声を録音するレコーダー。（英文スクリプトと日本語訳は一番最後にあります。必要に応じプリントアウトして下さい。）

①Warming-up Shadowing　

スクリプトは見ないでシャドーイング。録音は不要。英語音声を再生し、聞こえてきた音をしっかり声を出して正確に発音する。激しい運動の前の準備体操です。

②Short Reproduction　

まずは文章を短く切ってリプロダクションをしましょう。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。録音は不要です。

・ネイティブ英語音声を/のところまで再生し、聞こえた英語をしっかり発声してリピートする。

・一語一句同じでなくても、意味が同じなら別の表現を使ってもよいが、自分のスピーキングが正しい文法になっているか自信がない場合は一語一句同じ表現を使うことをオススメします。

・スクリプトはなるべく見ない。何と言ったか忘れたら、もう1度音声を再生して確かめる。（それでもだめなら、スクリプトをチラ見して確認する程度にする。）

まずは、この程度の短さでリプロダクションに挑戦しましょう。

I can’t seem to wrap my head around the finish of today. /I’ve tried to think about it since it ended and boy, /I feel for Dustin. It’s the same feeling I had on 17;/ I just was able to have another hole to rebound./ I mean, this is incredible. It’s incredible. /It will take a little bit to sink in. /I didn’t think this would be over and I would be holding the trophy./ Definitely didn’t think that at the time. Obviously pleased./ I mean, every single thing that I’m able to do, /somebody seems to find a history,/ history lesson on why I was the youngest to do something /or as young as somebody way back when. /For me, this is my life./ I’ve now been doing it for a while. /I don’t really think of my age./ I just think of us all as peers. /It’s cool to be able to have two legs of the Grand Slam now,/ and to conquer golf’s hardest test./ I mean the U.S. Open is conquering the hardest layout in all of golf. /

難しければもっと短く切ってもよい。スクリプトを見ずに滑らかにできるようになったら③に進む。

③Longer Reproduction

次は1、２文ずつリプロダクションをしていきます。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。自分の声を録音する。英語の構文がどうなっているか、意識して聞き、意味を理解していくようにする。ネイティブ感覚を身につける上で重要なポイントである、to, of, by, など小さな言葉の使い方も真似して身につけて。

スクリプトを見ないでも滑らかに1文再現できるようになるまで練習しましょう。リズムやイントネーション、息継のタイミングまで真似をするとよい。自分のパフォーマンスの録音を聞いて、聞きやすい英語になっているかチェックする。

今日どうホールアウトしたのか、自分では理解できないみたいです。終了後、どうだったか考えようとしているのですが。それより、ダスティンが気の毒で。17番の私と同じでしょう。私の場合は、もう１ホール余っていて、挽回の機会があっただけ。本当に良かったです。優勝したんだという実感が沸くのは、まだ先のことです。終了時に自分がトロフィーを持っているなんて、考えていませんでした。あの時は、まったくそんなことは考えていませんでした。もちろん嬉しいです

私が何かを実現する度に、なぜ私が最年少の記録を作ったのかとか、誰それ以来最年少の選手だとか、誰かが歴史を教えてくれます。私にとっては、これが人生です。最近ゴルフを始めたわけではないし、プレーする時に自分の年齢は考えません。皆、仲間だと思ってやっています。メジャー2勝を挙げられたこと、そして全てのゴルフの中で最も難しいレイアウトである全米オープンを制覇できたのは、クールなことです。
