no.８ リプロダクション編 ニッキー・ヘイリー氏 Speech by Governor Nikki Haley
こんにちは！本日もリスニング日和ですね！
今回のリスニング日和は、2018年まで米国の国連大使を務めたニッキー・ヘイリーさんが2012年に共和党の党大会で行った演説です。当時はサウスカロライナ州知事で、共和党期待の女性リーダーとして登壇しました。インド系移民の娘として生まれ、サウスカロライナ州では初の女性知事、マイノリティ出身知事、また当時は全米最年少知事でした。バランスのとれた政治家で言うべきことはしっかり言うタイプ。スピードはやや早めですが、話の組み立てが大変分かりやすく、艶とも言える滑らかさを感じるスピーキングはとても魅力的です。

リプロダクションは、英語を再生しながら追いかけて再現するシャドーイングとは異なり、ある程度の長さを聞いたら一旦音声を止めて再現する練習です。通訳訓練の中では難易度の高い類ですが、リスニング日和では一般英語学習者むけに簡単なやり方で進めます。それに、シャドーイング編をしっかりこなした後ならスムーズに出来ますよ。 構文を直観的に理解し英語を頭ごなしに解釈できるようになったら、ネイティブ感覚のリスニング力もすぐそこ。スピーキングの力も伸ばせる練習です。

準備：ヘッドホンをつける。自分の声を録音するレコーダー。 （英文スクリプトと日本語訳は一番最後にあります。必要に応じプリントアウトをして下さい。）
今回は最初の2分間を使用して練習します。
①Warming-up Shadowing
スクリプトは見ない。録音は不要。 英語音声を再生。聞こえてきた音をしっかり声を出して正確に発音する。激しい運動の前の準備体操。
②Short Reproduction
必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。録音は不要。 最初の半分くらいまでを使用して説明します。
・ネイティブ英語音声を/のところまで再生し、聞こえた英語をしっかり発声してリピートする。
・一語一句同じでなくても、意味が同じなら別の表現を使ってもよい。（文法的に正しいスピーキングに自信がない方は、一語一句同じ表現を使って暗記するのがオススメ。）
・スクリプトはなるべく見ない。何と言ったか忘れたら、もう1度音声を再生して確かめる。（それでもだめなら、スクリプトをチラ見して確認する程度にする。）
まずは、この程度の短さでリプロダクションに挑戦しましょう。

必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。自分の声を録音。 1文ずつリプロダクション。英語の構文を意識して聞く。ネイティブ感覚を身につける上で重要なポイントである、to, of, by, など小さな言葉の使い方も真似して身につけて。

スクリプトを見ないでも滑らかに1文再現できるようになるまで練習する。リズムやイントネーション、息継のタイミングまで真似をするとよい。自分のパフォーマンスの録音を聞いて、聞きやすい英語になっているかチェック。

いかがですか？ヘイリーさんは速いところは速いので、真似をしようとすると舌がもつれてしまいませんか？
しっかりシャドーイングをマスターした後だとやりやすくなります。
でも無理して早口にしてグシャグシャなしゃべりになるのもなんなので、落ち着いて1語1語発音できればよしとしてよいんではないですかね。
そういうところより、聴衆に語りかけるようなヘイリーさんの人心掌握スピーキングを真似してみましょう！リズム、イントネーション、ポーズです。
それと、目線の使い方。
スピーチではついつい下においた原稿を見てしまいがちですが、しっかり聞き手の目を見て話したいものですね。

Almost forty-five years after my parents first became Americans, I stand before you and them tonight as the proud governor of the state of South Carolina.
We build things in the Palmetto State. We build planes. We build cars. We have three of the four largest tire producers in the world and are about to become the number one tire-producing state in the country. And not too long ago, The Wall Street Journal said, “Anyone still thinking the U.S. has lost its manufacturing chops hasn’t been to South Carolina.” We have so much potential and so much to be proud of.
But like so many states, we have our challenges, whether they be unemployment or education or poverty. And like so many of my fellow governors, I work day in and day out to try and improve the lives of the people of my state.
