本日もリスニング日和 no.14 リプロダクション編ハリー王子のスピーチでリスニング訓練

こんにちは！本日もリスニング日和ですね！

今回のリスニング日和は、英国王室のハリー王子のスピーチです。米国人女優メーガン・マークルさんとの間に第1子が誕生したハリー王子ですが、王室シニアメンバーからの離脱を発表しました。当初は王子として一部公務を続けつつ経済的自立を目指す、フレックス王室メンバーを想定していたようですが、緊急家族会議の結果、公務を完全にはずれることが決まりましたね。王子個人の家族と国への率直な思いが込み上げるスピーチで、簡潔明瞭かつ品の良い言い回しが満載。感情を控えめに表現しつつ、聴衆に親しみを感じさせるかっこいい英語です。

＜1回聞いただけで瞬時に理解する力＞を鍛えるリプロダクション編です。リプロダクションは、英語を再生しながら追いかけて再現するシャドーイングとは異なり、ある程度の長さを聞いたら一旦音声を止めて自分の声で同じ意味の英語を話す練習です。通訳訓練の中では難易度の高い類ですが、リスニング日和では一般英語学習者むけに簡単なやり方で進めます。それに、シャドーイング編をしっかりこなした後ならスムーズに出来ますよ。構文を直観的に理解し英語を頭ごなしに解釈できるようになったら、ネイティブ感覚のリスニング力もすぐそこ。スピーキングの力も伸ばせる練習です。

準備：ヘッドホンをつける。自分の声を録音するレコーダー。（英文スクリプトと日本語訳は一番最後にあります。必要に応じプリントアウトして下さい。）

①Warming-up Shadowing　

スクリプトは見ないでシャドーイング。録音は不要。英語音声を再生し、聞こえてきた音をしっかり声を出して正確に発音する。激しい運動の前の準備体操です。

②Short Reproduction　

まずは文章を短く切ってリプロダクションをしましょう。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。録音は不要です。

・ネイティブ英語音声を/のところまで再生し、聞こえた英語をしっかり発声してリピートする。

・一語一句同じでなくても、意味が同じなら別の表現を使ってもよいが、自分のスピーキングが正しい文法になっているか自信がない場合は一語一句同じ表現を使うことをオススメします。

・スクリプトはなるべく見ない。何と言ったか忘れたら、もう1度音声を再生して確かめる。（それでもだめなら、スクリプトをチラ見して確認する程度にする。）

まずは、この程度の短さでリプロダクションに挑戦しましょう。

最初の部分を使って説明します。残りも最初は短めに切ってやってみましょう。

次は1、２文ずつリプロダクションをしていきます。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。自分の声を録音する。英語の構文がどうなっているか、意識して聞き、意味を理解していくようにする。ネイティブ感覚を身につける上で重要なポイントである、to, of, by, など小さな言葉の使い方も真似して身につけて。

I also know that you’ve come to know me well enough over all these years to trust that the woman that I chose as my wife upholds the same values as I do. And she does. And she’s the same woman I fell in love with. We both do everything that we can to fly the flag and carry out our roles for this country with pride.

Once Meghan and I were married, we were excited, we were hopeful and we were here to serve. For those reasons, it brings me great sadness that it has come to this. The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one that I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven’t always gotten it right but as far as this goes, there really was no other option.

What I want to make clear is: we aren’t walking away and we are certainly not walking away from you. Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth and my military associations but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.

I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am, but I hope that helps you understand what it had come to. That I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope could be a more peaceful life. I was born into this life and it was a great honor to serve my country and the Queen.

When I lost my mum 23 years ago, you took me under your wing, you looked out for me for so long. But the media is a powerful force, and my hope is one day our collective support for each other can be more powerful because this is so much bigger than just us.

It has been our privilege to serve you, and we will continue to lead a life of service. So in that respect, nothing changes. It has also been a privilege to meet so many of you, and to feel your excitement for our son Archie, who saw snow for the first time the other day and thought it was bloody brilliant.

I will always have the utmost respect for my grandmother, my commander in chief, and I am incredibly grateful to her and the rest of my family for the support they have shown Meghan and I over the last few months. I will continue to be the same man who holds his country dear and dedicates his life to supporting the causes, charities and military communities that are so important to me.

Together, you have given me an education about living. And this role has taught me more about what is right and just than I could have ever imagined. We are taking a leap of faith. Thank you for giving me the courage to take this next step.”

明確にお伝えしたいこと、それは私達は消えるわけではない、まして皆さんの前から消えることはないということです。私達は公金を使わずに女王、コモンウェルスに仕え続け、軍関係の支援活動を続けたいと望みました。残念ながらそれは不可能でした。

私は現実を受け入れました。私という人間、私の決意の程が変わるわけではありませんから。しかしそれで何を得ることになったのか、皆さんに理解していただければと思うのです。私は自分にとって全てだった世界から家族を一歩遠ざけ、もっと平穏になるであろう人生に一歩踏み出すのです。私は生まれた時からこの世界にいました。祖国と女王のため仕えることは大きな名誉でありました。

23年前母を亡くした時、皆さんは私を守り、その後も本当に長い間、育んでくださいました。しかしメディアは強力な力を持っています。いつの日か私たち皆で支え合いより強くなれることを願います。唯我々だけの問題ではないからです。

これまで皆さんに奉仕できて光栄でした。これからも奉仕の日々を送っていきます。その点では何の変化もありません。これまで本当に多くの方々にお会いし、また、私達の息子アーチーの誕生を喜んで下さっているのを感じられたことも、光栄に思っています。アーチーは先日、人生初の雪を見てマジ最高なんだそうです。

私は我が祖母にして最高司令官である女王に最大の尊敬を持ち続けます。女王、そして家族には、過去数か月メーガンと私を支えてくださったことに心から感謝しています。私は変わりません。これからも祖国を大切にし、私にとって非常に大切な大義、慈善活動、軍人コミュニティーの支援に身を捧げていきます。
