no.28リプロダクション編 カマラ・ハリス上院議員Senator Kamala Harris’ Speech at the Iowa Democratic Hall of Fame
こんにちは！本日もリスニング日和ですね！
今回のリスニング日和は、2020年米国大統領選挙で民主党のバイデン前副大統領former Vice President Joe Bidenと組む副大統領候補running mateに指名された、カマラ・ハリス上院議員です。バイデン氏はかねてより女性を指名すると明言しており、中でもdiversityを尊重しマイノリティ出身を選ぶのではと言われてきました。特にＢＬＭ運動Black Lives Matter運動も盛んな頃合。ハリスさんはお父さんがジャマイカ、お母さんがインドの出身だそうです。
そのハリスさん、春先までは自分が大統領候補でした。今回のスピーチもその当時ものです。アメリカの選挙戦は事実上共和党Republicanと民主党Democratsの一騎打ちですが、まずは党内で立候補希望者を一本化する予備選primaryという選挙を州毎に行い、８月の党大会までに指名候補を1人に絞ります。今回ハリスさんがスピーチを行ったアイオワ州は、予備選の初戦の州。この州での勝利は、稼げるポイントこそ少ないけれど、長丁場の戦いの中で初戦を勝ちとるとインパクト大。ということで、各候補とも大変重要視し、何度も現地を訪問します。
早口になったりゆっくり話したり。スピーチが仕事みたいな政治家ならではの緩急を真似してみてくださいね。構文を直観的に理解し英語を頭ごなしに解釈できるようになったら、ネイティブ感覚のリスニング力もすぐそこ。スピーキングの力も伸ばせる練習です。
今回は最初の1分５２秒を使って練習します。

準備：ヘッドホンをつける。自分の声を録音するレコーダー。 （英文スクリプトと日本語訳は一番最後にあります。必要に応じプリントアウトして下さい。）
①Warming-up Shadowing
スクリプトは見ないでシャドーイング。録音は不要。 英語音声を再生し、聞こえてきた音をしっかり声を出して正確に発音する。激しい運動の前の準備体操です。
②Short Reproduction
まずは文章を短く切ってリプロダクションをしましょう。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。録音は不要です。
・ネイティブ英語音声を/のところまで再生し、聞こえた英語をしっかり発声してリピートする。
・一語一句同じでなくても、意味が同じなら別の表現を使ってもよいが、自分のスピーキングが正しい文法になっているか自信がない場合は一語一句同じ表現を使うことをオススメします。
・スクリプトはなるべく見ない。何と言ったか忘れたら、もう1度音声を再生して確かめる。（それでもだめなら、スクリプトをチラ見して確認する程度にする。）
まずは、この程度の短さでリプロダクションに挑戦しましょう。最初の部分を使って説明します。残りも最ってやってみましょう。

次は1、２文ずつリプロダクションをしていきます。必要ならスクリプトを確認しながら。自分の声を録音する。英語の構文がどうなっているか、意識して聞き、意味を理解していくようにする。ネイティブ感覚を身につける上で重要なポイントである、to, of, by, など小さな言葉の使い方も真似して身につけて。

And it was because of the conversation that we had that as my first policy proposal, I am prepared to make the first federal investment in the history of our country in closing that teacher pay gap. I thank you.
And so that’s just — that’s part of the backbone, part of the backbone, of what I believe needs to be done right now — which is to make the case for America. Make the case for our America. An America where health care is a right not a privilege; America where teachers are paid their value; an America where women have the right to make decisions about their own bodies; an America where somebody has to work only one job to put food on the table and a roof over their head; an America where our children do not have to go to school every day and be concerned about some mass shooter roaming the hallways of their school; an America where we have a president of the United States who knows it is a sign of strength not to beat people down but to lift people up.
アイオワの皆さん、調子はどうですか？またお会いできて嬉しいです。私はアイオワ州の皆さんにお礼を言いたいと思っています。大統領候補として初めてアイオワを訪れてからというもの、皆様が情報を与えてくださり、助けてくださったおかげで、私はよりよい候補者に、そして、間違いなく、よりよい大統領になれるからです。
ですので、皆様に感謝を伝えたいと思います。例をあげますと、最初の頃に教員グループとの集会をしたことがありました。その時にアイオワの皆さんから「ねえカマラ、今あなたが話している教員の給与問題は全米の問題だよ」と言われました。
その一言があったので、私が一番に発表した政策が、米国史上初の連邦政府による教員給与格差是正の投資を行うという提案になったのです。ありがとうございます。
これは今やるべきこと、つまりアメリカのために声をあげようということの支柱となる政策の１つとなっています。アメリカのために声をあげるのです。医療が特典ではなく権利であるアメリカ、先生がその価値に見合う給与を受け取るアメリカ、女性が自分の体のことを自分で決める権利があるアメリカ、住む家を持ち家族を養うために仕事を掛け持ちしなくてもよいアメリカ、子供たちが毎日、銃乱射犯が廊下をうろついていたらどうしようと心配せず学校に行けるアメリカ、人々を痛めつけるのではなく支えて持ち上げることが強さなのだと知っている大統領がいるアメリカです
